The chain buys centrally on a weekly cycle, so a store that sells out on Friday waits until the next order lands. Managers were ordering on instinct and last year’s figures.
The forecast is built on three years of till data alongside local weather, school terms and promotion calendars. It writes into the purchase ordering system the team already uses, so nobody has to learn a second tool. Success is measured simply: fewer empty shelves, without more waste at the end of the week.
Reception was losing most of the day to the telephone, and roughly half of those calls were the same three requests: book an appointment, move one, or confirm one.
The assistant handles those three, checks the practice management system for real availability, and writes the booking back to it. Anything it is unsure about, and anything clinical, goes to a person with the conversation attached. Staff see every booking it makes and can reverse any of them.
Every shipment arrives with a bill of lading, a packing list and customs paperwork, often as a photograph of a printed page. Clerks retype the same fields into three separate systems.
We read the documents, pull out the fields that matter, and check them against the shipment record before filing. Where the paperwork disagrees with the booking, the discrepancy goes to a person rather than being quietly corrected. The aim is to remove the typing, not the judgement.
